Laura is a HCPC registered chartered Health Psychologist specialising in providing psychological support and intervention for patients with cancer and those closest to them. Her area of expertise is helping people adjust to and cope with diagnosis, treatment and recurrence and the effects these can have on people’s lives. Laura can also support patients making decisions about treatment.
Laura can help you find ways to cope with your distress, anxiety, worries and concerns such as fear of cancer recurrence, and the effect these have on your mood and in and your everyday life. She can help you deal with the changes in your life and find ways of coping with the difficulties that you are experiencing. Laura can help you make sense of the situation and help you get ‘back on your feet’ helping you to return to your normal family, work and social roles.
Your sessions with Laura will give you an opportunity to talk freely about your thoughts and feelings. Many people find speaking about what has happened really helpful. The sessions will be tailored to your individual needs to help you deal with the changes in your life and find ways of coping with difficulties you are experiencing. Laura will work with you to develop coping strategies and build resilience to the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Laura’s background is in oncology nursing before training as a Health Psychologist. She is an Honorary Health Psychologist at Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre (NHS) and a Research Fellow in Oncology at the University of Liverpool.
Laura brings a wealth of experience with over 30 years of working with people affected by cancer. She can draw on her extensive knowledge of the difficulties and concerns you can encounter from diagnosis onwards.
