The Clatterbridge Private Clinic visited our friends and colleagues on the Isle of Man in support of cancer care for patients on the island. The main event was a “Meet the Consultant Evening” at the Villa Marina in Douglas, organised by our charity partners. The turnout was excellent, with over 120 attendees all there to speak to our consultants and hear about the latest developments in cancer care.
On the night, four leading Clatterbridge Private consultants updated the packed audience on current, new, and future cutting-edge cancer treatments available at the Private Clinic. Dr Raj Sripadam (Chairman of the MAB) presented Breast and GI, Dr Lampkin (Isle of Man Lead) delivered Prostate, Benign conditions and Skin, Dr Ehab Ibrahim discussed Head and Neck, and Lung, and Dr Jonny Heseltine showcased Thoracic and Cancer of Unknown Primary. The consultants were joined by Duncan Armfield, the CPC General Manager, who gave presentations, and everyone went on to answer questions from an audience of over 120.

Duncan Armfield said afterwards, “The Clatterbridge Private Clinic were delighted we could reach so many patients, families and other healthcare workers from the island to update them on our cutting-edge cancer treatments, some of which are not available on the NHS.”
“Our consultant team were overwhelmed with the response and enjoyed providing face-to-face advice and support to so many on the evening. After the presentations and questions, we struggled to leave with so many people wanting to talk with us. I am sure we will arrange a further visit later in the year and perhaps even make it a regular event.”

“I would like to thank our charity partners, in particular, Julie Stokes, from Manx Breast Cancer Support Group, Mannin Cancers and the Council of Cancer Charities for extending the invitation and organising the event with us.”
As part of the trip, the Clatterbridge team also visited some of our partners on the island, including Mannin Dr’s, with Dr Karen Wilson, Athol Health with Dr Roger Dixon, The Nobles Hospital cancer team, and Professor Partha Vaiude, who will be launching his private surgery (Clinic Savoir) in Ramsay later this year.

The aim of collaborating with our Isle of Man partners, is to have agreements to provide end-to-end cancer care for patients, with as much being done locally as possible. This allows patients to access the best level of cancer care and the latest treatments while minimising travel.
While at the Nobles Hospital, the charity took the Clatterbridge Private team to the new Cancer Patient Centre currently under construction, where patients and their families can get information from services such as Macmillan, plus have available access to psychological and financial support.

They are planning to have a room where remote consultations can take place with consultants on the mainland while in a healthcare environment to provide further advice and support. This will be such an asset for cancer patients, providing all the information in one place, making it easy for them to gather everything they need and feel fully supported throughout their journey.

The Clatterbridge Private Clinic works in partnership with the Isle of Man to provide residents with diagnostics, expert cancer care and access to the latest groundbreaking treatments, many of which are not routinely available on the NHS. Our team do everything we can to make the whole journey as stress-free and relaxing as possible for patients. We have implemented several things to ensure that we can effectively care for Isle of Man residents, including:
- Regular visits to the island from our clinical and support teams
- Remote consultations, if required
- Partnership with on-island services to minimise travel and have local support while having treatment
- Patient service co-ordinators who will support you in planning your care, travel and stay while visiting the clinic
- Chauffeur service from the airport or ferry terminals to and from the clinic
- 24/7 hotline for emergency advice
- Free car parking
